Luis Suarez: Barcelona still want to sign banned Uruguay striker

Barcelona remain keen to sign Uruguay's Luis Suarez despite his four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match.
The Liverpool striker, 27, cannot take part in any football-related activity until the end of October.
He is not allowed to train with his club or enter a football stadium.
Yet La Liga side Barca, who already have Argentina forward Lionel Messi and Brazil playmaker Neymar, would consider signing Suarez for the right price.
Liverpool bought Suarez from Ajax for £25m in January 2011.

He missed the start of last season after being handed a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013, but returned to score 31 Premier League goals as the Reds finished second in the table.
His performances also earned him the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' player of the year awards.
Suarez was found guilty of biting Chiellini on the left shoulder during Tuesday's World Cup group match, which Uruguay won 1-0 to qualify for the last 16 in Brazil.
The forward denied the allegations, claiming Chiellini bumped into him.

But Fifa decided the former Ajax player had bitten the Italian defender, and banned him for four months as well as nine international matches.
Chiellini says the four-month ban given to Suarez is excessive. and has "no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez".
Suarez has also lost his role as a worldwide ambassador of online gambling firm 888poker, which said it had "decided to terminate its relationship" with "immediate effect".
It is the third time Suarez has been suspended for biting an opponent.
Prior to being banned for biting Ivanovic, he was suspended for seven games for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal in 2010.
Suarez has flown to Uruguay after leaving his team's hotel in Brazil.
A large group of people gathered at Carrasco International Airport near Montevideo on Thursday in the hope of welcoming him back to his homeland, but he is thought to have avoided the crowds.

Adam Lallana: Liverpool medical for Southampton midfielder

Southampton's Adam Lallana
Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana is set to have a medical ahead of a proposed £25m move to Liverpool.
The 26-year-old England international is expected to complete his transfer to the Reds within the next 24 hours.
Liverpool had two bids for Lallana rejected before the World Cup, and Southampton reopened talks after he reiterated his wish to leave the club.
Rickie Lambert has already joined Liverpool from Saints, who have also sold Luke Shaw to Manchester United.
Lallana has been at Southampton for 14 years, having joined the club as a 12-year-old from Bournemouth, who hold a 25% sell-on clause.

Luke Shaw: Man Utd sign Southampton defender for £27m

England defender Luke Shaw has joined Manchester United from Southampton for £27m, making him one of the world's most expensive teenagers.
The 18-year-old's fee could rise to £31m, depending on his performance. An initial £27m offer was rejected in May.
He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has all the attributes to become a top player

The left-back has agreed a four-year contract with United, with an option to extend for a further year.
"I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that," he said.

Ander Herrera: Man Utd confirm deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.
The La Liga club rejected a £29m bid from United for the Spaniard, 24, on Thursday morning.
But Herrera has now activated a clause in his contract that has allowed the first transfer of Louis van Gaal's tenure as manager to proceed.
"Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true," said Herrera, who has agreed a four-year deal.

Ander Herrera

  • Born: Bilbao, 8 August 1989
  • Clubs: Real Zaragoza (41 apps, 3 goals), Athletic Bilbao (128 appearances, 11 goals)
  • International: Spain under-21s (15 apps 4 goals), Spain under-23s (5 apps, 0 goals).
"I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club's objectives.
"Having arrived on Tuesday, I'm excited to now be living in Manchester and I can't wait for my first game in United's famous red shirt."
United attempted to sign Herrera last year, only for the deal to fall through in farcical circumstances.
The Premier League club have moved much more quickly this time around to capture a player who impressed against them in the Europa League in 2012.
Athletic said earlier on Thursday that they had rejected bid from United, even though it matched the figure stated in Herrera's release clause.
Old Trafford officials viewed it as a political stance from Bilbao, aimed merely at appeasing their own supporters.
"We aspire to have players whose first choice is to defend our shirt," said the Basque outfit in a statement on their own website. "Ander's decision doesn't match that, which is disappointing.
"It's not a pleasant moment, but it doesn't alter our philosophy nor our way of working."
Bilbao-born Herrera remains thankful to his home-town club.

Fifa media relations manager Delia Fischer reiterates that Luis Suarez's four-month ban means he cannot take part in any football activity during that time.
